Our aim at Broomhill Bank School is to prepare our students for life. School is obviously a key element of our students’ life-long learning journey and we believe they should be as well prepared as possible for their next steps by the time they leave us - whether this be to further or higher education, an apprenticeship or on to the world of employment. We believe education should prime our students to live as independently as possible as good citizens who work hard and contribute to their community, but who can also enjoy and make productive use of their leisure time. We hope they will leave school as aspirational young adults, with a place in their hearts that is inspired to seek out learning and self-improvement throughout the course of their lives.
A strong, secure and broad academic grounding supports the best outcomes for our students. Central to this is the rich curriculum opportunities they are given, underpinned by specialist classroom interventions and learning programmes. To achieve this it is crucial our students can be healthy, safe and have their emotional needs met and therefore we also focus closely on wellbeing via our therapy and therapeutic provision, including for some students the opportunity to access our waking day curriculum in our residential houses. We believe that parents are also critical in ensuring the wellbeing of our students via the support they provide at home and their contribution to the life of the school when they attend meetings and support special events.
We have a duty to forge a staff team of the very best practitioners to work with our students and we invest relentlessly in the ways in which we recruit and develop staff. We recruit staff who share our philosophy of life-long learning and we foster potential by actively seeking out talent from within our staff team. In this way, we can contribute to the succession planning not only of our school but the wider education system as well. Our membership of the Kent Special Educational Needs Trust (KsENT) helps us to realise these ambitions.
