Summary of activities

Brief summary of the range of academic and enrichment activities that made up the Summer School provision

Using the funding allocation, we received from the DFE we were able to run a 2-week summer school during August 2021.

We ran a 2-day summer school programme each week (16-17 and 23-24 August) for our new Year 7 intake.  The school had been unable to run our usual programme of transition activities and events due to Covid.  For the students who join our school, most of whom have ASD, this is a vital part of ensuring they transition successfully to our school.  Being able to offer a summer school programme enabled these students to learn about the school, take part in a range of activities and begin to feel part of the school before the start of the new academic year.

We also ran a 2-day summer school programme each week (18-19 and 25-26 August) for students who already attend our school (Years 8 to Sixth Form).  This also included new students who were joining our Sixth Form.  Re-engaging with education following periods of remote learning and reduced time interacting peers proved invaluable to our vulnerable students to re-establish routines and re-engage with class activities ready for the start of the new academic year.

The students enjoyed a variety of activities and events which really enhanced and enriched their school experience which had been diminished due to COVID restrictions. These students enjoyed a variety of activities focussing on English, Maths, and Science, as well as an exciting programme of extra-curricular activities.  They also met the teachers, navigated the building, and most importantly made friends.

This has enabled our school to start the new academic year in a positive way, with all students able to re-integrate and focus on their learning from the start of term.
