June /July 2011 FED Activity Week

Summer Activities week took place from 27 June - 1 July, which involved a 3 night stay under canvas in the school grounds. Tents were pitched on Monday and despite the torrential rains of Tuesday everybody kept dry.
The group spent Monday at Bentley where they had a picnic in the grounds and enjoyed the gardens & museum. On Tuesday the Sponsored Walk took place around the fields and footpaths of Rusthall,  Fordcombe and Groombridge.  The walk was rudely interrupted by a thunder & lightning storm which swept in! The group managed to shelter safely but everyone did get rather wet! Wednesday was spent at Bedgebury, cycling and walking and in the evening there was a BBQ in the school grounds. To finish we toasted marshmallows round a brilliant camp fire. On Thursday there was swimming at the Uckfield Leisure Pool, preparing lunch including a delicious fruit crumble made with our own home grown gooseberries and rhubarb and taking the tents down as we had been warned it might rain in the afternoon. After lunch much fun was had looking at the photos taken during the week and a chill out time before heading home.
On Friday there was a dancing and Tai Chi morning and general clearing up. All the girls did so well during the week taking all the challenges in their stride. It has certainly been a worthwhile experience for all with the added bonus of experiencing our beautiful school ground in a different way.

June 2011 - Annual trip to Snowdon

On June 12th, 9 pupils and 4 staff left for the Kent Mountain Centre situated in Llanberis , a small village in the Snowdonia National park.   Here we undertook a number of challenging outdoor activities that included Bouldering, Gorge walking, Sea traversing, Tyrolean Traversing, Abseiling and canoeing to name but a few.

We are proud to say that every member of the Group climbed to the summit on Tuesday 14th of June. In total it was 9.5 hours of hard walking! A truly exceptional achievement of which we are incredibly proud.

As always it was a hugely rewarding and successful trip with our students exceptional behaviour, determination and willingness to challenge themselves in new ways. Plans are already underway for June 2012 so keep the Snowdon trip in mind.
