The Broomhill Bank Inclusion Outreach Project (IOP) is based at Broomhill Bank School .  The Project aims:

  • To share special school expertise in developing social communication skills with mainstream schools;
  • To enhance achievement in the classroom and the community by focusing on social communication. 
  • To support inclusion opportunities for Broomhill Bank students where identified via the Annual Review process as being appropriate.

Curriculum Aims  

Programmes of study are based on a combination of: 

  • SEAL National Curriculum Primary and Secondary Strategy - Speaking, Listening, Learning
  • PSHE 'Citizenship'
  • SULP
  • Drama activities
  • Jenny Moseley's work on Circle Time activities

Training provided by established providers such as ICAN, Institute of Education (London) to plan and provide to meet the five key outcomes of Every Child Matters

The work of the IOP team aims to support the work of the mainstream school in reinforcing the concept that language and social skills are integral parts of learning and that oracy has a key role in teaching and learning.  Social communication groups meet the criteria of initiatives such as Every Child Matters, SEAL, Citizenship and PSHE.
