The course usually 1, 2, or 3 years is designed for students who are not yet ready to leave school for a full time placement at a Further Education College or for employment. A total education and care programme offers a broad and flexible framework for pro-active learning both in school and within the community. Students are encouraged to become aware of their own interests, strengths and weaknesses in relation to personal, educational and vocational aspects.
All students play a part in individual planning of their own programmes of work and activities. A great emphasis is put upon the growth of independence and self-sufficiency within many varied and exciting opportunities for the students to experience. All students have an annual review meeting with parents and staff.

The Further Education Department at Broomhill Bank School aims to provide an active learning programme for coping with all aspects of life after school - preparation for adulthood. The students are helped in their transition to adulthood through the development of a balanced work, leisure and life skills programme so that they can contribute to and participate in society.
This will involve; the acquisition of social and life skills enabling the students to cope with a range of everyday situations. The encouragement of self-confidence and self-reliance, the acquisition of basic skills applicable to vocational training.
All students have different needs and therefore a programme of differentiation is offered.
Some students will need to develop skills to cope with their own personal care, basic numeracy, literacy and social awareness, for others the major needs may be to develop vocational skills enabling them in the future to become independent and enter open employment.
